Have you insured your hearing aids?

Hearing aids are small, sophisticated devices – and for many people, they are essential in everyday life. They make it possible to follow conversations, participate socially and experience the world around you in a completely different way. That is precisely why it is so important to make sure your hearing aids are insured in case they are accidentally lost.

It makes no difference whether your hearing aids are provided through the public healthcare system or purchased privately; they are equally valuable and must be replaced at your own expense if they are lost.

If they are lost, damaged or stolen, it can be costly and time-consuming to obtain compensation or replacement devices. In the meantime, many people may experience a reduced quality of life and difficulties in their everyday lives. Good insurance therefore provides both financial protection and peace of mind.

There are several options for insuring hearing aids. Many people choose to take out separate insurance by becoming a member of the Norwegian Association of the Hard of Hearing, which offers, among other things, extended insurance and several other membership benefits. However, please note that the Norwegian Association of the Hard of Hearing does not cover the loss of hearing aids that were not acquired through a private purchase. The association only covers the loss of hearing aids that have been acquired and provided through NAV.

It is also possible to arrange insurance through your own bank or insurance company, such as through home contents insurance, travel insurance or valuables insurance. It may be a good idea to check the terms and conditions of the different policies with your insurance company or bank, to make sure that your hearing aids are adequately covered and protected in all possible scenarios.

We also recommend activating the tracking function in the mobile app associated with your hearing aids, if possible. Many modern hearing aids can show their last known location if they are lost. This can make it much easier to find them again. If you lose a hearing aid, it is important to act quickly. Start by checking the tracking function in the app and search the places you have recently visited.

If you find a hearing aid that someone has lost, you are welcome to hand it in to a hearing clinic or hearing aid provider. We can often help trace the owner using the serial number on the device.

If you have questions about insurance, tracking functions or what to do if your hearing aids go missing, you are always welcome to contact us. We are happy to help with advice, guidance and, if necessary, filing a claim for loss or damage with your insurance provider. We can also order new hearing aids for you, as well as provide hearing aids on loan while you wait for your new hearing aids to arrive if you have unfortunately lost yours.
