Hearing Aids and Mobile App

Did you know that you can control many of the functions of your hearing aids directly from your mobile phone? With the manufacturer’s app, you get greater control, more adjustment options, and easier access to useful features in your everyday life with hearing aids. At the same time, the apps can occasionally be a little tricky to use. See our tips below on what you can use the app for, and what you can do if the app isn’t working as expected.

What you can use the app for:

Adjust the sound yourself: Change the volume as needed and adjust the sound to different situations.

Change programs: Easily switch between available listening programs, such as a telecoil program where supported.

Hear phone calls, music and podcasts directly through your hearing aids With compatible hearing aids and mobile phones, audio can be streamed wirelessly from your phone directly to your hearing aids. This can make phone calls and listening to media easier.

Find your hearing aids: Several apps have a search function that can help you locate the last recorded location if you are unlucky enough to misplace your hearing aids.

Get help remotely: With remote adjustments, your audiologist can, in many cases, adjust your hearing aids via the app by appointment, without you needing to visit the clinic. This can be useful if you need assistance between regular appointments or have a long journey to the clinic.

Get tips and guidance: Find advice on using, cleaning and maintaining your hearing aids.

Get maintenance reminders: Some apps offer reminders to clean your hearing aids and replace the wax filters. This can help you establish good routines and make it easier to notice when your hearing aids need a little extra attention.

Check the battery level

Many apps display the battery status, making it easier to see when your hearing aids need to be charged or the batteries replaced. Some apps also show the connection status.

Adjust the sound to suit the situation

Some apps allow you to adjust the right and left hearing aids separately, reduce background noise, or fine-tune the sound when streaming. Some models also offer dedicated features to make speech clearer.

Two important points to note:

  • App adjustments are not the same as a full hearing aid adjustment by an audiologist. Adjusting the volume does not necessarily change the basic hearing aid fitting. Usually, the volume level returns to the standard amplification set by your audiologist when the hearing aids are placed on the charger or switched off via the battery door if you use conventional disposable batteries. If you frequently find yourself turning up the volume, your audiologist should investigate this further. Your hearing may have deteriorated, and your hearing aids may need to be readjusted following a new hearing test.

  • Not all features are available on all hearing aids. The options available to you depend on your hearing aid model, mobile phone and app. It may also be necessary to update the software in your hearing aids. Some major updates need to be performed at the clinic, as they are not rolled out through the mobile app. These updates are only available through the software used by your audiologist.

Experiencing problems with the app?

Technology doesn’t always cooperate. Fortunately, there is often a solution!

  • Problems with the connection? Check that Bluetooth is enabled, that your hearing aids have sufficient power, and that the app has the necessary permissions. Sometimes, restarting both your phone and hearing aids can help.

  • Do you need to turn the volume up high? If you constantly need to increase the volume in the app to hear well, you may need a new hearing test and adjustment of your hearing aids. Contact your audiologist so we can check whether your hearing aids need to be adjusted to suit your hearing better.

  • Have you got a new phone? You may need to remove the hearing aid app before downloading it again, and then reconnect your hearing aids. The procedure varies between manufacturers and phone models, and it can sometimes be a little tricky to get everything working as before.
