Summer Hearing Safety Tips
Are you traveling abroad, staying within Norway, or spending the summer at home? Will you be visiting family and friends? Whatever your plans, it can be a good idea to take a few precautions when it comes to your hearing aids and your hearing.
Feel free to visit us at AudioPlus before your holiday if you are having problems with your hearing aids, earwax, or need to get hearing protection. Below, you can find some useful hearing tips.

1. Don’t go on holiday without an extra charger, filters, domes, or batteries
Filters and domes occasionally need to be replaced, and batteries can run out when you least expect it. Always keep spares readily available in your bag. These service products can easily be ordered through our online store.
2. Don’t expose your hearing aids or other assistive devices to intense sunlight and heat
Electronics don’t do well on hot dashboards or sunny patio tables.
3. Keep your hearing aids dry and clean
Sweat, rain, and other moisture can creep in unnoticed. A little maintenance and a quick daily check of both your ear pieces and hearing aids can be a good idea. Despite the good IP ratings found on most newer hearing aids, seawater, swimming pools, and summer rain can still quickly cause problems. Take your hearing aids off before jumping in.
4. Be prepared for changes in air pressure while traveling
Flying, driving through mountainous areas, and long tunnels can cause pressure in your ears. Equalizing the pressure and using good earplugs can make the journey more comfortable. You can equalize the pressure by, for example, swallowing, yawning, or pinching your nose shut with your mouth closed and gently blowing.
5. Choose your sound environment carefullyOutdoor restaurants, festivals, and busy restaurants can be challenging. Try to find a good spot where the acoustic environment is favorable, with less background noise and better conditions for hearing.
6. Take care of your equipment – even on holiday Sand, sunscreen, and dust don’t take a summer break. Regular cleaning helps ensure better sound quality throughout your trip.

7. Don’t enter loud environments without hearing protection
Concerts, engine noise, and festivals still require hearing protection – even when you’re having the time of your life. Good hearing protection helps protect your hearing and can also reduce listening fatigue. Read more about the different types of hearing protection we offer through our online store.
8. Keep your ear canals free of earwax
Earwax can cause reduced hearing and prevent your hearing aids from working as intended. If you produce a lot of earwax, regular ear irrigation may be a good idea. Ear irrigation products with a water bulb are available at pharmacies, or you can get help with professional ear irrigation from your GP or from us at AudioPlus.
9. Take breaks when sound levels get high
Your ears need rest just like the rest of your body. A little quiet time now and then can do wonders.
10. Listen to the professionals – have your hearing and equipment checked before you leave
A quick check before your holiday can help prevent major problems during your trip. You can reach us by phone at 990 99 779 or through our contact form.
Have a great trip – and remember:
There is no shame in protecting your hearing. The best summer memories are the ones you can still create – and hear about – for many years to come.
